Highlights from the 2017 Tony Awards

2017 Tony Awards Recap

You know I love a good award show, especially when it means curling up on the couch on a Sunday night to wrap up a long weekend. So much fun. That’s why last night’s 71st Tony Awards were such a hit. They fall outside of the typical awards season and they celebrate something a little different: Broadway Productions. Held right in the epi center of the live performance action, the ceremony was at Radio City Music Hall and always puts on a great show. If you watched along, I hope you enjoyed and if you missed it, keep reading for some highlights.

Honored to host the #TonyAwards2017…fingers crossed all the envelopes are in order

2017 Tony Awards Highlights

According to USA Today, “Bette Midler, a true Broadway legend, took home the best actress in a musical prize at the Tony Awards Sunday night. And she did so with all the class, glitz and drama her career of almost 50 years deserved.

Accepting her best actress in a musical trophy for Hello, Dolly! Midler rattled off an impressive list of thank-yous before the orchestra started playing her off. “Shut that crap off!” she said, silencing the music and continuing her speech as the audience cheered, the whole thing clocking in at over four minutes.”

Hosted by Kevin Spacey, “Dear Evan Hansen” won the big prize for best musical, with star Ben Platt winning for lead actor — and giving a passionate and touching speech in the process.” Other big winners includes “Oslo” for best play and “August Wilson’s Jitney” for best revival of a play.” (via Variety)
