For many of us entrepreneurship isn’t even a question. It’s a way of life and something we could never live without. But, for others it’s the most terrifying, yet intriguing concept around. If you’ve found yourself wondering if you could ever leave the security of your 9-5 to strike out as an entrepreneur, you probably can. And, my guess? At some point, you probably will. But how do you justify the scary part? The part where you take a leap of faith to do something that feels (and probably is) completely out of your comfort zone? Well, you just do it. You trust yourself to know that you’re following your dreams, fulfilling your passions, and making sure you’re building the life you want. Still feeling fearful? Here’s a look at five reasons to become an entrepreneur.
You’re in charge. Ahhhhh, finally. You can breathe that sigh of relief knowing that you have the chance to build your own future, exactly the way YOU want to. You get to choose the destination based on the path you want to take and what feels good in your heart. It’s incredibly liberating to stop reporting up and reporting to yourself instead.
You’ll have a work/life balance that’s on your terms. Need to spend more time with your family? Want to be there in the morning to get your kids on the school bus? I totally get it. Entrepreneurship allows you to make the rules. You’re able to decide the who, what, where, and when of your schedule in addition to what works and what doesn’t work for you.
There’s no cap on your earning potential. At your 9-5, there’s a limit. You’ll grow and develop only so far on your career path and your salary has a cap. When you work for yourself, the potential is limitless and the opportunities are what you make of them. You want to make more money? You’ll get there by being a creative, savvy business person who seeks success.
You’re free to be you. When your creativity feels stifled, there’s nothing worse or more frustrating. And, often when we work for someone else, we’re there to adhere to their rules. We’re executers rather than full-fledged creators. When you work for yourself, you create. You build. And, you decide where and how to put your creative energy. It’s liberating and invigorating all at once.
You can be the change you want to see in the world. That’s a beautiful thing. You want a new product that fits your lifestyle, make it. You want a service that you think will make people happy, develop it. The world is yours to shape into anything and everything that makes you happy.
