I was so saddened to hear about the powerful earthquake that hit Central Mexico yesterday. Many people were killed, buildings were crushed and rescue workers have been hard at work for hours trying their best to find missing people and rescue those who are trapped. According to CNN, “At least 116 people died in the magnitude-7.1 earthquake, officials said. Most deaths were reported in Puebla, Morelos and Mexico states, and Mexico City, the capital.” There are millions of residents in Central Mexico without power and “the earthquake is the deadliest in Mexico since the 1985 quake that killed thousands. It came less than two weeks after another powerful quake left 90 dead in the country’s south.” (via CBS News)

Mexico’s seismological agency said the epicenter was between the states of Puebla and Morelos, about 75 miles south of Mexico City. (via Business Insider)

According to Business Insider, “Earlier in the day, buildings across the city held preparation drills on the anniversary of the 1985 quake, which was a magnitude 8.1 and killed at least 5,000 people, with some estimates as high as 40,000. An 8.1 magnitude earthquake hit Mexico earlier this month, killing 98 people.”

It’s hard to watch the news these days with everything going on in Puerto Rico with Hurricane Maria to this. I’ve enjoyed spending time in Mexico and call Puerto Rico my home. God bless everyone affected. My heart go out to you, my prayers are with you.
