You know I love a good celeb story….getting the inside scoop is always so much fun. With Anna Faris’s recent breakup all over the news lately, I was pretty excited to stumble upon her recent guest post in Cosmo. It’s the best when a well-known person actually writes the post – you feel like you’re getting a glimpse inside and a chance to get to know him or her….and this post doesn’t disappoint. Turns out Anna is a girls girl through and through and that made me love her even more. Why Anna Faris is a “Girl’s Girl”
Anna, on thinking it was “cool” to be the guys girl:
In my 20s, I thought it was cool to say I was a guys’ girl. I didn’t realize until later how lame I sounded, bragging as though having a lot of girlfriends was a bad thing. Back then, I thought that having the approval of my stoner guy friends was of greater value than having the approval of beautiful blonde sorority girls, so I touted my male friends as if my association with them spoke to how cool I really was. I was selling my own gender down the river, and I wasn’t even getting any fulfillment from the relationships with those dudes.
On realizing the how and why behind needing some gal pals:
That’s why it took me longer than it should have to realize just how important female relationships are. It takes vulnerability of spirit to open yourself up to other women in a way that isn’t competitive, and that’s especially hard in Hollywood, where competition is built into almost every interaction.
On who her best girlfriends are:
Today, I’m lucky to have a handful of women I count as confidantes. Among them, Allison Janney, my costar on Mom, Meghan, a friend from my hometown of Edmonds, Washington, and Kate, a dear childhood friend who I probably have nothing in common with anymore — at least from an outsider’s perspective — but who totally gets me because … history.
Here’s the thing: Anna is right. There is nothing as essential, wonderful, fulfilling and tough as having a tight circle of girlfriends. They’re often your rock, your confidant, your laughing partner, shopping buddy and the person who gets you the most when everything is going wrong. Girlfriends keep you going when you’re feeling like you’re at the bottom and like your day simply couldn’t get any worse…but they’re also there during the best and happiest moments of your life. You need them. They need you. And, these types of friendships are different than the ones you have with your spouse or partner – and, that is OK.
It’s fun when you find a celeb who you know you’d hit it off with in real life and Anna Faris seems like one of those women. Funny, down-to-earth and clearly loves and adores her besties, something so close to my own heart. What’s your favorite thing about your girls?
