We’re getting toward the time of year where the cooler air starts to blow, the days are shorter, and in some places, snow is already falling. I can’t believe fall is moving along so quickly, but it absolutely is. This is the season where we suddenly find ourselves ready to curl up on the couch with a blanket and a good book, snuggled up with our loves or making big batches of soup. On top of all that, nothing sounds better than a hot bath, especially when your skin is also feeling the effects of the cooler temps. When the air gets dry and cold, skin tends to have a similar reaction—it gets dry, itchy and sometimes appears a bit dull. So how about finding a solution that works two ways: warm up on a cold night in the bath, but give your skin that soothing treatment it needs too? Here’s a look at four remedies to detox and soften skin in the tub.
4 Home Remedies for Irresistibly Soft Skin
Olive Oil Bath: Recipe via Picklee
Add three tablespoons of olive oil to your bath while it fills. Soak & relax.
When mixed with water, olive oil can soak deep into your tissues and rejuvenate them. Olive oil baths aid in building a stronger immunity to viral and bacterial infections. Olive oil will help maintain the collagen in your skin, keeping skin looking supple for longer. This reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Bonus: After giving birth, regular oil baths have been known to help regain strength. The minerals in olive oil can also help your uterus shrink back to its normal size much faster post-baby.
Milk and Honey: recipe via CrunchyBetty
As cliche as it may sound, bathing in milk and honey is a fantastic way to get soft, supple skin – all over your body. The lactic acid in milk is very exfoliating, and honey is softening, moisturizing, and all-around beautifying. The key is to use full-fat milk (or powdered milk) and pure honey. Full-fat milk will not only exfoliate the skin, but it will also moisturize.
Pour 1-2 cups of milk (or 1/2 c. full-fat powdered milk) and 1/2 c. honey under running, warm water. Swish around to mix, and hop in. Close your eyes and imagine 5 beautiful servant men fanning you with palm leaves. Repeat as necessary. For full effect, brush your skin lightly and in circular motions with a dry brush or a washcloth before getting in the bathtub.
