How to Dress for an Interview

It is critical to know how to dress for an interview when job hunting. What most job seekers do not take to heart is that an employer’s first impression of you is determined from what you are wearing. Your interview attire speaks volumes before you have the opportunity to open your mouth. In many cases, interviewing supervisors have made a decision before beginning the interview process just by what you have on. It may not be fair, but this is the reality.

For some reason, people have become very lax in their physical presentations. How to dress for an interview is not to come dressed like your favorite character on Gossip Girl or Sex and the City. There are rules that you must adhere to. Save the bold neon colors for a girls night out! You want to dress in solid colors and classic patterns. Modesty is necessary.

When thinking about how to dress for an interview, choosing the proper shoe is also important. You may want to leave your runway stiletto’s in the closet. The last thing you want is to have pain from your feet steal your concentration away from the interview. If you are unsure about your hair for an interview, keep it neat and out of the way. Minimal jewelry and makeup is also advised. You want nothing to distract you or the interviewer with clanking noises from a bracelet or a bold manicure.

Less is more in this case. This is your one shot to make a huge impression. Your goal is to get hired and get your foot in the door. Don’t risk your opportunity by showing up inappropriately. Your interview is your chance to showcase your qualifications and experience as well as sell who you are. Don’t sell yourself short. Invest in good interview attire.
