Skywatchers are in for a rare treat this month in the form of a blue blood moon.
The first full moon of 2018 graced our night skies on January 1, with the next supermoon taking place at night on January 30. The second full moon and the lunar eclipse is expected to show at night on January 31, or during the very early morning hours of February 1.

Ever wondered why people use the term ”once in a blue moon”? It’s because, according to NASA, a blue moon happens only once every 2.7 years.
The supermoon will be viewable in New York City and Miami at 5:51 am on January 31, with the distinctive darkening and reddening of the eclipse stealing the limelight at 6:48 am local time.
