SXSW is a massive music, film, media, and technology conference held in Austin Texas. It’s a unique experience chock-full of panels, seminars, premieres, and concerts. It’s a great event for anyone trying to get their foot in the door or learn about their field. If you’re heading to SXSW, great, but there are a few things you should keep in mind before heading to Austin.
Surviving SXSW: Everything You Need to Know
Stay Hydrated- As I said, this conference is massive, so it’s definitely going to be an all-day thing. You’re going to be jumping from panels to shows in a matter of minutes, so you’re going to want to take care of your needs before anything else. Bring a refillable water bottle and some snacks with you just in case. You never know!
Bring a Backpack- Free merch is the name of the game at a conference like SXSW. I suggest you bring a backpack to carry your essentials (like a water bottle) and then stock up on any goodies or pamphlets that may come your way!
Wear Comfortable Shoes- You’re going to be walking—a lot! Comfortable shoes will be your savior! Also, remember to wear comfortable clothes! A jacket and poncho will do you well as Austin weather is unpredictable! Stay prepared to stay on schedule.
Network, Network, Network- The best part of this conference is that there are going to be so many opportunities to network, so be sure to have your business card handy along with a card reading app. Be friendly and open to anyone you might meet. You never know where your next opportunity lies!
SXSW Go- Keep your phone handy to use the SXSW Go App. The app is great for keeping your schedule in the palm of your hand, so you know where to go and what to do, plus you can share your schedule with fellow attendees!
