Get the Look: Michelle Monaghan at the Critics’ Choice Awards

The Critics’ Choice Awards made a lot of news this week and it’s almost no wonder with a red carpet full of gorgeous looks. I especially loved Michelle Monaghan’s look. She wore a Monique Lhuillier blazer and sheer skirt. She added a Tyler Ellis clutch to her look and some Tiffany jewelry. Gorgeous. I especially loved her modern and chic ponytail. Gorgeous, no? Check her out below!

According to Michelle’s trusty hairstylist, John Ruggiero, it was all about creating a look to play off her red carpet outfit.

“For Michelle’s Critics Choice awards look, we wanted something with edge to complement her flowy Monique Lhuillier pant suit/dress.  I suggested something along the lines of a sleek Helmet Newton girl. After a little collaboration with the team, we decided to try something slightly different and bring the sides of her hair over her ears. I was afraid it would go a little Mrs. Lincoln but with Michelle it looked chic, modern, and sexy.”

If only I could work with these two everyday!! @realmonaghan @shanepaish #dreamteam #bts #johnruggierohair

“We had been doing press all day for her film Patriots Day so she had a great base to start with (dirty hair is always better to do any style with!!).”

If you love Michelle’s hair as much as I do then you’re in luck! Ruggerio gave me his tips on how he created her sleek yet effortless updo. Read on!

  1. I first took a dollop of Bumble Brilliantine and ran it through Michelle’s super thick hair.
  2. I parted her hair severely down the center before going through it with my GHD Flat Iron. I straightened her hair section by section, directing the hair down and back.  I then took my Mason Parson Brush and brushed her hair into a low pony and sprayed it to an inch of its life to give it that Newton, wet look.
  3. After it was set and in place, I took two black bobby pins and secured the shorter layers behind her ears.
  4. At first I was going to hide the pins because I’m bored of the bobby pin look but kept them because it actually had a purpose and gave it a punk vibe.  The rest was all Michelle. She makes it all look effortless and cool.
