Relationships can be challenging and are full of ups and downs. Yes, there are happy, magical connections, but there is also toxic, unrequited and hurtful love. Knowing when to walk away from the latter makes you stronger than you’ll ever fully appreciate. Understanding when to leave means you respect yourself enough to let go of what no longer serves you or makes you happy, regardless of how much love may flow through your veins for that person.
3 Reasons Why Knowing When to Walk Away Makes You Stronger Than You’ll Ever Know
Deciding to end any relationship is never easy. Even letting go of a long-term toxic friendship can be a struggle – why? Because it’s familiar. We’ve adapted to having it around us. Having the inner strength to know that a person is no good for your happiness or your future is the greatest strength of all.
#1. Acceptance.
Accepting someone is no longer worthy of your love is a beautiful display of self-love and self-worth. Hanging on to anything, or anyone, that threatens your inner happiness does nothing to serve your existence.
#2. You love yourself.
When you care more about what is best for you and your future than what feels familiar and safe right now is a beautiful display of maturity, spiritual growth, and strength. Toxic people will always try and manipulate those they torture with words like ‘If you loved me, you’d never leave.’ The truth is, if they truly loved you (or even themselves), they’d never push you to the point of needing to walk away because your happiness would be a priority.
#3. You know yourself.
You know yourself enough to evaluate your future, and who does (or doesn’t) earn a place eating at the table next to you. Loving someone who doesn’t love themselves, or who doesn’t love you back, is a self-destructive mission. Love should feel wonderful; you deserve to feel like someone will always be by your side as your biggest cheerleader, no matter what, and puts your happiness before their own. Bravo for walking away and deciding to fall in love with yourself. You are an inspiration!
