Working from home is not for everyone. But you can be incredibly successful if you set your mind to it and implement the right skills. Keep reading for my five favorite ways to stay motivated when you work from home.
How to Stay Motivated When You Work From Home
1. Wake up Early and at a Consistent Time.
You don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn but pick a time that gives you a full nights rest and waking up at that same time every morning creates a routine. Consistency is one of the keys to success in working from home and sticking to a system will keep you motivated and accountable.
2. Don’t Work in Your Pajamas.
When you look frumpy, you feel frumpy. Take a shower, put on makeup and get dressed – whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident and ready to take on the day.
3. Implement a Routine.
Waking up early and getting dressed is part of that routine. Make yourself coffee in the morning, walk your dog, take a break to eat lunch. Achieving these small but essential goals every morning will keep you accountable to yourself and keep you inspired.
4. Have a Defined Work Space.
Don’t work on the couch or worse, in your bed. The couch is for relaxing and watching movies, and your bed is for sleeping. Have you ever worked in your bed and at bedtime found that you couldn’t sleep? Set aside space in your house where you only do work. Being able to differentiate where you work versus where you have fun and relax is supremely vital to your overall wellbeing.
5. Take Breaks When You Need Them.
Embrace the flexibility of working from home and take breaks when you can’t focus or aren’t feeling truly motivated. Go outside and get some fresh air, meet a friend or mentor for coffee or lunch, or watch an episode of your favorite TV show. Then, with a fresh mind, get back to the grind.
