How to Set Healthy Boundaries with Loved Ones

Act from a place of love- Fear is something that comes up when you’re trying to set boundaries. How will they react? What’s going to happen? Don’t get me wrong; fear is valid in this situation. The trick is learning from your fear. Notice it when it arises so you can learn to come from a place of love rather than fear. Accept your fears and do what you can to learn from them.

Say no- To set boundaries with friends and family, you’re going to have to learn to say ‘no.’ For women, this is especially difficult. Often, we aren’t taught to say ‘no,’ so it’s an especially difficult habit to take up. Try it out in unimportant situations to get comfortable with saying it. When a situation that pushes your boundaries comes up, have the courage to say ‘no.’ It won’t feel comfortable at first, but eventually, you’ll get used to it.

Know you’ll be better because of it- When fear of setting boundaries arises know that in the end, you’ll be better because of it. Setting boundaries and saying ‘no’ will help protect your energy so you can be there for your loved ones when it counts. Remember, you have to take care of yourself first!
