Procrastination is a bizarre phenomenon. You know what your goals are and how and why you want to get there, yet for some reason, some mornings you can’t seem to focus and follow through on your to-do list to help you get one step closer to your dream life. Sound familiar? You’re procrastinating. And here’s how to kick it to the curb.
How to Defeat Procrastination
The science behind the madness.
Once considered a time-management problem, experts now believe that procrastination is incompetent self-determination. Think of it as a deliberate delay of an essential assignment we intend to do despite knowing we’ll suffer as a result of not getting it done. Almost a form of self-rebellion, if you will.
The why.
Author, James Clear, believes procrastination is due to the fact we have a “present self” who craves immediate enjoyment. We aren’t always in our “future self” mindset who keeps their eyes on the long-term rewards; hence the “present self” takes over and does what it wants to do in the present moment.
Four reasons why you procrastinate.
1. Progress doesn’t seem quick enough.
2. You’re scared of failure.
3. You’re overwhelmed.
4. You’re not enjoying the task.
