The other day, I received a thank-you card in the mail from
a business I visited recently. As I’m reading the note, I couldn’t help but
think how rare it is to receive a thank you, nonetheless one that is handwritten.
The card put a huge smile on my face, and I thought to myself: “I should do
this more often.” Well, not read thank you cards, but write them. I think I’m
pretty good on Twitter when it comes to saying thank you, so that’s a start!
When it comes to business thanking your customers can go a
really long way. Once we have a new client, we can’t take them for granted and
assume they’ll return. But if we show them how much we appreciate their
business by sending a thank you note, there’s more of a chance they’ll stay.
Think about if someone would send you a handwritten thank you card, would you
return? Probably. So why not treat your customers to the same service.
And if you don’t have time to handwrite a card, you can
always send and email, a Facebook message, or even a Tweet. But do make sure to
say thank you in one way or another. For example, you can send someone an @ on
Twitter thanking them for following you. Or if someone gives your company a
like it on Facebook, post a thank you on their wall.
The more personalized the better. Those automated thank-yous
don’t always cut it. So I encourage you to take some time out of your day to
send your thank-yous. It’ll only take a little bit of your time, but it’s sure
to make a huge difference.
xoxo
