Picking up the pieces after you have been laid off can be daunting but it has to be done. You may not have wanted a lay off to occur, however, in these rough economic times, many companies are not safe or secure from economic tragedy. Although you may not see it at the time, this may be a blessing in disguise. Unbelievable opportunities often arise out of negative situations. When one door closes a new one is sure to open. You will work again. Either you will find a new job or create one. You will survive because you are a survivor. You will achieve great things because it is in you to do so. This is not the end of the world. It may seem like it, but you will rise again.
Here are some suggestions to help you pick up the pieces after being laid off:
– Allow yourself to feel. Your emotions are apart of the process. Feel but don’t allow yourself to become stuck.
– Access your finances. File for unemployment if you do not have another form of employment lined up.
– Don’t become discouraged. Negative emotions do nothing but drain you.
– Create a new resume. Make sure that your resume is up to date and highlights your qualifications.
– Become proactive in your job search. Utilize your networks.You never know who is hiring.
– Don’t get into the bon-bon slump. Keep yourself busy and looking great. You never know when an opportunity will present itself.
– Let your face circulate. Attend different professional events. You need to keep yourself in the know.
– Remain positive. Good things always come to those who remain positive.
