We all know what it’s like to be buried in work and wishing we just had someone who was interested and eager to help out. In today’s economy it’s unlikely that any of us have the budget to hire all the people needed to effectively get a job done. And, so many of us find ourselves with much more responsibility than we can really tackle. In comes the intern. Good interns – the eager, fired up excited ones, are actually out there, and with a little effort, you can find good interns. Here’s a few tips on finding interns that will go the distance.
4 Ways to Find Good Interns
- Post internship opportunities with local universities. Universities, small colleges and even community colleges are overflowing with eager students who would make good interns.
- Make the internships part time. Outlining a full-time unpaid internship is great in theory, but think about the intern – we all need income to survive. Make the internship work for someone who has a part-time job or is still in school.
- Offer internships that are actual learning experiences. Using an intern to make copies and file is helpful to you, but is it really helpful to the intern? If you make your internships known as actual learning experiences with real work involved, good interns will come to you.
- Stay open to inquiries. Rather than turning away someone who reaches out to you (and who has obviously done some research about your company), meet and interview those candidates who reach out.
With a little effort, you can learn to find interns. Have you had any experience with this or do you have any tips for how to find good interns?
