5 Tips to Create a Cross-Promotion Press Release

Some may argue the classic news release is dead. You know, the kind that answers the “who, what, where, why” of your newsworthy announcement. And sure, maybe that boring format is dead, but that only leaves room for a new interactive release to be born.

In an effort to make your release more attractive, you’ll want to add features that make it more likely for bloggers, social media users, and general media to use the information. Here are five tips to help up your chances in getting picked up.

1. Add something tweetable

After a 3-5 lines of “who, what, where, why” add a line that is Twitter friendly. Create a headline that is 140 characters or less and your more likely to be tweeted.

2. Offer photos

You don’t want to attach high resolution photos (super large files), but you should add a flick link to your photos.

3. Share video

Just to up your chances of being picked up, you’ll also want to add a link where media can view, share , and upload a video of your “newsworthy announcement.” Youtube or Vimeo will do the trick!

4. Show some link love

A large portion of the media that will pick up your info are web-based, so you want to offer them every link possible, so they can make sure to add a hyperlink to their stories. Make it easy for them by offering a clear guide to what should be hyperlinked.

5. Add hashtags

At the end of the release you may want to add relevant hashtags, so they promote your brand, you, or an event your hosting with the right hashtags on Twitter.
