Is Apple Really the World’s Most Valuable Company?

Apple was in the news yesterday when it’s stock hit an “all-time high” as reported by the Associated Press. While Apple has maintained extremely high value over the years, yesterday’s spike in stock set the company’s value to $624 billion. At $66.15 per share, Apple’s stock rose three percent from this past Friday. Apple has even exceeded the record rates of the Microsoft Corporation in the midst of the Internet boom!

 As it turns out, Exxon Mobile is a distant second to Apple when it comes to value these days, meaning oil has taken a backseat to computers. (Can you believe that?) Back in the days of the Internet boom, the world’s most valuable company was Microsoft (at $621 billion), followed distantly by Yahoo (at $100 billion) and Disney (at $70 billion). Today – things are a little different. Yahoo is worth a whopping $18 billion and Disney has jumped ahead to $90 billion. Apple is worth more than these companies combined and it’s been reported to be worth 15 times Facebook’s value. Incredible!

Between the new iPad, iPhones, Apple TV and everything else on Apple’s horizon, it seems the value of Apple will only continue to soar. Does it surprise you that Apple is the world’s most valuable company? Despite these claims, TechCrunch is reporting that Apple is not the most valuable company in the world, claiming the winner is IBM.
