You dream of your company becoming a household name so it’s important to chose wisely when deciding on a name for your business. Choosing a name for your business can be extremely stressful – you want the name to resonate with your customer but is descriptive of your company in some way. I chose Motives for my cosmetics line because it was my personal way of motivating women to become self-employed, and self-sufficient entrepreneurs. I named my HSN fine jewelry collection, Yours by Loren, after you, the women who asked me to create it.
Here are a few of my tips to remember when choosing a business name:
1. Keep it to one or two syllables because short words are easy to remember, like Apple.
2. Tell the story behind your brand (similar to what I just did for Motives and Yours) and see if any important words stick out to you.
3. A functional abbreviation or acronym with letters that stand for something, like NASA .
4. Make something up! Chose a name that will only ever identify with your company, for example Google.
