What’s your favorite thing about being a makeup professional?
It’s so hard to answer this because I love everything about what I do! Aside from making women look and feel beautiful which is the reason why I fell in love with this artistry in the first place, I would have to say my favorite thing is being apart of a creative team and working on set with several other talented individuals. I love witnessing the final product of a creative project.
In your opinion, how has the pandemic impacted the beauty industry?
The Pandemic has impacted every industry in one way or another. As a makeup artist I went from working 7 days a week and traveling the world to not taking any clients for 2-3 months. With all the events being cancelled or postponed, our industry has definitely taken a major hit. The upside to this is that it has given many artists the time to get creative and work on other projects they may not have had the chance to work on in the past. It’s forcing creatives everywhere to think of other ways to monetize while not being able to take clients.
Who are some influential people you’ve dolled up in the past?
I’ve had the pleasure of working with the amazing Loren Ridinger, one of my favorite clients amongst many others. I’ve also worked with artists such as Cardi B, Ashanti, Becky G, Natti Natasha, Letoya Luckett, and the list goes on.
What’s the one product you can’t live without and why?
I swear by the Motives Eyeshadow Base Primer. I can’t live without it! It’s the perfect long-lasting base for any look and really helps to intensify the pigments in eyeshadows.
What beauty trend are you loving this year?
I’m obsessed with the Fox EyeLift trend. I created a tutorial on this look on my Instagram teaching my followers that they can take 10 years off with just a few makeup techniques.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a career in the beauty industry today?
Just do it! There are so many different avenues in the beauty industry and enough work to go around. Start somewhere and practice your butt off in whatever it is you want to do. Nothing will teach you the ins and outs of this industry like experience. Always work on your craft and never give up!
How did you meet Loren Ridinger?
I met Loren through a mutual friend in Miami when Loren was looking to work with a new makeup artist. It was friendship at first sight! I understood her makeup style immediately and she quickly became a repeat client. She’s an inspiring woman in so many ways. My favorite memory of her is watching her Live on stage during conference. Her speech was incredibly motivational and it will stay with me forever.
What have you learned from Loren?
Loren has taught me that you can literally have anything you want in this lifetime as long as you’re willing to work for it and the importance of helping and inspiring others in the process. Loren makes everyone around her feel like they can reach their fullest potential.
