Surprising statistics were released earlier this year suggesting U.S. entrepreneurship being at a 40-year low. However, recent research shows signs of growth in 2018 and female entrepreneurs are generating this surge. The list of today’s top 25 entrepreneurs compiled by Ranker features only two ladies, Oprah Winfrey and Vera Wang. Things are about to change. Why? Because 2018 is officially the year of the woman.
Female Entrepreneurs: 2018 Is the Year of the Woman
More recent studies from the University of New Hampshire identified that in 2014, only 15% of those seeking angel investment were women. In 2018, this number is expected to rise to 23%. The number of women running for office is increasing, strengthening the expectations for change.
Women are rising, not just as entrepreneurs, but as advocates of other females. Women have never been so committed to speaking up about gender issues and demanding change. Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was finally arrested and processed on charges of rape and sexual misconduct this year after several brave women came forward. This case is a catalyst for many more victims to speak out about other celebrities who have abused their positions of power for years. Go women!
If you’ve always wanted to start your own business, apply for your dream job, pitch yourself for a pay rise or go for that promotion, now is the time. This is your year!
