Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone: Why You MUST In Order to Grow

There’s a lot of things you have to do in life if you want to grow as a person, but the number one? Stepping out of your comfort zone. Turns out, it’s the only way to learn something new. Imagine if you only ever did what feels comfortable. Imagine if you never tried something new. A new food, a new route to work, a new type of hairstyle, a new way of looking at things – all uncomfortable in their first go around – but all things that will help you grow in the long run. So how do you do that when you’re nervous about all things new? It’s simple. You give it a try. Not sure you can make that leap? Here’s a look at stepping out of your comfort zone: why you must in order to grow.

Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone: Why You MUST In Order to Grow

Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone: Why You MUST in Order to Grow

#1. It will help you reach for the stars. Sometimes when we get too comfortable, we also get a bit complacent. And, that means we stop performing at our peak capacity because things become routine. Routine can be good in its own right, but not when it causes a breakdown in our quest to grow. Operating at peak performance is not only something to strive for, but it’s something that feels good – leaving you craving more. Stepping out of your comfort zone will push you to that place where challenge meets skill – and your skill will have to improve in order to succeed.

#2. Taking risks is actually energizing. Even though trying something totally new might feel weird and scary at first, taking that risk will also give you a bit of an adrenaline bump. When you’re trying something new and you feel that bit of challenge, your heart pounds, you get pretty excited and you may even start to sweat a bit. It’s good for you! Once you overcome the challenge, you’ll be flying high for the rest of the day.

#3. Trying something new can really get your wheels turning. Sometimes all it takes is stepping out your comfort zone to see all the possibilities out there – and, it’s a lot. You’re eyes are opened to everything that you’re capable of and may even get your creativity kick started. You’ll see something that gives you an idea and that idea may just blossom into more and more – until suddenly you’re really ready to get after it.

#4. It keeps your mind sharp. When you fall into a routine, you don’t even have to think about what you’re doing – because, well – it’s a routine. You operate like a well-oiled machine knowing exactly what to do when. And, sometime you really can even accomplish your next task with your eyes closed. In some situations that’s great and it’s exactly what you want, but changing things up can be a good thing too. Reminding yourself how to think on your feet and make quick decisions keeps your mind working and operating in tip top condition.

#5. It will help you make the most out of life. We each only have one life to live, so why not make it the best it can possibly be? That means putting yourself out there and trying new things on for size, exploring the way others live and learning everything you can to make yourself a well-rounded individual.

So, what’s stopping you? Why not get out there and try something new?
