Beauty advice is everywhere. From blogs to magazines, social media and television, you cannot get away from it. So how do you know what actually rings true and what you should avoid? Sometimes it’s tough to make the distinction, but if you stick with some of the classics rules for beauty you should be good to go. Feeling like you’ve seen some questionable advice lately? Keep reading for a quick review of Bad Beauty Advice: What to Avoid.
Bad Beauty Advice to Avoid
Hair: Brushing and styling your wet hair is A-OK.
It’s best to wait for your wet tresses to dry before brushing. If you’re in too much of a hurry and simply can’t wait, towel dry your hair and run a wide-toothed comb through it to prevent breakage.
Skin: Go ahead and take unregulated skin supplements to achieve healthy skin.
Consuming unregulated supplements is always a risky endeavor. Some over-the-counter supplements haven’t been subjected to FDA approval and could dangerously interfere with prescribed medications you may be taking.
Eye Makeup: Use every single color in the palette at the same time.
Opt instead for different shades of the same color. Start with a medium shade on the base of your lid, a lighter version beneath the brow line and the darkest hue to line the lid. This will give you a much cleaner and sophisticated look.
Moisturizer: Moisturize wet skin to “seal in” the moisture.
The process of adding moisturizer to already-wet skin will make it greasy and slippery, and you’ll also be forced to wait twice as long to dry off. Instead, always apply moisturizer after your skin has just dried, and allow it to fully settle in before getting dressed.
Lips: Lining your lips is outdated and totally unnecessary.
This couldn’t be further from the truth! Lip liner is actually a lip savior in disguise.
Nails: Dilute chunky nail polish by adding nail polish remover to the bottle.
What you want is nail polish thinner. This will thin out the polish without destroying it. Be sure to use it in small doses and remember to close the cap tightly after every application to prevent evaporation.
Shaving: Fore the closest and best shave, shave up the leg.
For the truth concerning the best shave possible, shave downwards with the grain of the hair. If you want a closer shave, do it twice! And always remember to use a shaving gel or cream.
Toenails: Use cuticle trimmers or tweezers to remove cuticles for nicer looking nails.
Your cuticles prevent infection, so trimming them away can open the door to nasty germs, along with damaged nails and pain. It’s best to just leave those cuticles completely alone. But if you really feel you must fix your cuticles, use a special cuticle tool to push them back very gently.
