Wow. I was so excited when I stumbled upon the news that Aerie is joining the ranks of leaving one shade of nude behind to produce an assortment of nude shades of bras, boy briefs and thongs. I love it. Here’s more from Refinery 29: “And the nudes for all movement continues! Gone are the days where we had to pretend that “nude” was a one-size-fits-all color, when in reality we all knew it was just…beige. On Tuesday, Aerie announced it’s latest offering: The Aerie Real Me collection, an assortment of nude shades, featuring the brand’s second-skin fabrication that is “made to move with you and feel just like you,” priced from $14.50 to $39.95.”

So basically (and finally), this means a collection that’s meant to be amazingly comfortable and be a closer match to any shade of skin rather than the one-color-fits-all approach. Here’s a bit more about the Real Me line:
“The collection includes lightly-lined bras, boy briefs, and thongs that offer support and coverage, minus the excessive, bulky fabric. The idea is that each piece is “barely there,” making it super comfortable to wear. There are 11 shades available, ranging from pretty fall colors to nudes — the latter which were renamed with empowering words like energy, bold, honesty, confidence, inspiration, and strength. “We are so excited about the Real Me Collection because it goes beyond color—not only are we offering a beautiful palette that includes a wide range of nudes, but the amazing second-skin soft fabric of these bras lets you feel like your REAL self,” says Jennifer Foyle, Aerie’s Global Brand President. Incredible, right? It’s about time that all brands start to recognize the wide variety of skin tones and people out there. We’re getting so much better at understanding that bodies come in such a diverse range of shapes and sizes, now it’s time to add multiple tones to the mix. Some people are tall, some are short, some very thin, while others are built more broadly – turns out, the same goes for skin tone. I am also intrigued by the way the colors were named: energy, bold, honestly, confidence, inspiration and strength. What a lovely and inspiring transition from simple colors to something more meaningful and powerful.
