Watch out BeautyBlender and sponges, because there’s a new guy in town. If you haven’t heard of the SiliSponge, you’re about to find out why you need to get your hands on one. Although we can’t promise that it’ll be easy, since each batch ends up on backorder due to an overwhelming need for at least one.
The first thing you’ll notice about the SiliSponge is how much it doesn’t look like anything you might have in your vanity. Applying foundation will take some getting used to, but all new beauty tools have a learning curve for the most part.
Molly Cosmetics, the company that sells the SiliSponge in the U.S., describes it as a better product than beauty sponges because it doesn’t absorb the product since it’s non-porous. It’s also extremely easy to clean—just a little soap and water or sanitizing spray— and can be used on multiple people without much downtime due to cleaning. The most important thing to note about this product is that it’ll only set you back $10 and lasts until you find a tear.

The fact that the SiliSponge looks like a bra insert has not gone unnoticed. Cosmopolitan has tried actual bra inserts to see if they’d work as a dupe for the hard-to-get sponge killer and you’d be surprised at the results. It worked! The tester gave the process and the results two thumbs up. The only downside, she explained, is the size of the bra insert but other than that she loved it. She noted in the piece that it worked on a multitude of products including the application of foundation, concealer, liquid blush, and blending product from a contour stick.
So whether you decide to wait to get your hands on an actual SiliSponge or are feeling adventurous and prefer to give a bra insert a.k.a. chicken cutlet a try, it’s definitely a great time to think outside the box.
