Have you ever wondered what it would look like if Instagram added advertisements to the platform? Well, we’re all about to get that chance. In the coming weeks Instagram will start incorporating paid posts into users’ feeds. This is a first for Instagram – and they’re being very cautious about the way it’s handled. Paid posts will look almost exactly like any other Instagram post – with filtered images and all – but users will see the word “sponsored” in the top right corner. In the bottom right of the post, the “more” button provides a chance to hide the ad or send Instagram your feedback.
First Look: Instagram Ads Launching This Week
“Our focus with every product we build is to make Instagram a place where people come to connect and be inspired. Building Instagram as a business will help us better serve the global—and ever growing—Instagram community, while maintaining the simplicity you know and love.”
From Levi’s to Ben & Jerry’s, Instagram has hand-picked the brands with the initial opportunity to engage in paid posts, and these first ads will feature original, high-quality pics. As with most social sites, data from your Instagram habits will help channel what types of ads appear in your feed. Users who are 18 and older and live in the U.S. will be first to experience the Instagram advertisement roll out.
