I spoke to the Argentine polo player and the face of Ralph Lauren Fragrances about how to select the right scents for your loved ones this holiday season.
Happy Holidays! I can’t think of a nicer gift to unwrap over the holidays than a nice bottle of perfume or cologne. Why does this make a great gift for men and women?
Happy Holidays to you! A bottle of perfume or cologne is a gift that’s perfect for all ages, styles or personalities. As it can be difficult to know which scent to give, Ralph Lauren just launched a new online fragrance bar (ralphlaurenfragrancebar.com) where you can answer a couple of questions about the recipient and it will suggest fragrances based on lifestyle or scent preferences.
With so many choices, what tips can you share for picking the perfect fragrance for a loved one?
The best tip I can provide: Give your loved one a fragrance that you’d like to smell them wear. It’s also good to keep their interests in mind. For instance, if they are more active, try a fresh scent like Polo Blue, perfect for after a workout. If they are looking to turn heads, try something bolder like Polo Red Intense.
My favorite thing about Polo Red is that it’s unisex…or so many women have made it. What do you think about women wearing men’s fragrances?
I think it’s daring and kind of sexy for a women to wear a men’s scent; it shows their confidence.
Polo Red Intense is definitely a scent for men. Let’s do an experiment: spray the cologne on, close your eyes and tell me what comes to mind as you smell each note.
This is interesting – no one’s ever told me to do this but let’s try it! Speed, power, adrenaline, racing. There’s an initial freshness before it becomes spicy and woody. It also brings me back to filming the advertising campaign where I was behind the wheel of a powerful, high speed car.
Your wife (Delfina Blaquier) is stunning! What’s your favorite Ralph Lauren fragrance for women that she wears and why?
Thank you! I think my wife is stunning also. My favorite scent on her is Romance; it’s very feminine with a soft sweetness to it.
