Katie Couric made a pivotal mark in history (women’s history) when she became the first woman to anchor the evening news. She gracefully said goodbye to her audience on Thursday May 19th. Yesterday the former CBS anchor gave a commencement speech at Boston University’s 2011 graduating class. The anchor who ended her $75 million, five-year run at the network has yet to announce her new plans and told Boston University graduates she could “relate” to bright eyed youths who are face uncertainty in one of the worst job markets in a decade.
Couric told the grads that she left the “Evening News” post “with a feeling of immense pride and accomplishment,” but that the move from co-anchor of the “Today” show to first solo female anchor had been “very uncomfortable.”
Couric will reportedly host a syndicated talk show on ABC, with some appearances on “Good Morning America.” She will announce her next steps soon, she tweeted Saturday.
I look forward to see the new trails that you blaze in the upcoming years.
