In a perfect world, everyone would be happy all of the time. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my beautiful family and friends radiating happiness from the depths of their souls. Did you know that research studies discovered that there are 13 common reasons why people are unhappy with their lives? However, there is one obvious happiness-killing culprit here that leads to disappointment and unhappiness – expectations.

13 Common Reasons Why People Are Unhappy with Their Lives

#1. Expecting others to treat you as you would them – not everyone thinks the same, so stop expecting them to think and act as you would.

#2. Expecting opportunities to fall into your lap – we create our own opportunities. If you’re not out there hustling and opening as many doors for yourself as possible, you’ll NEVER get anywhere; be hungry – create your destiny.

#3. Living a mundane life without goals in place to achieve your dreams – this is spiritual suicide. Life is too short to spend it doing a job you hate when you should be following your passion.

#4. Assuming others will understand how you feel – no one will know how you feel unless you communicate your feelings.

#5. Living in the past – you’re in your present now; live it! The same applies to people who obsess over the future. Live in the present; enjoy the now.

#6. Lack of body confidence – people will never be happy if they’re not comfortable and confident in their own skin.

#7. Comparing yourself to others – you are a different person to those you compare yourself too. Look to them for inspiration, not for comparison.

#8. Expecting material possessions to make you happy – yes, shopping is fabulous, but material possessions won’t create long-term happiness.

#9. Possessing a negative attitude – things turn out best for those who make the best out of the way things turn out. Manifesting negative thoughts creates a negative life.

#10. Debt – no explanation needed here.

#11. All work and no play – despite being a self-confessed workaholic, I never lose sight of my ‘why.’ We have to remember to make time for the things that make us happy.

#12. Procrastinating your way through life – delaying work or life responsibilities causes stress and anxiety, especially when deadlines start sneaking up on you.

#13. Forgetting about our people – happiness is found in real relationships. Making time for family and friends is essential.
