Enjoying the outdoors during the summer months can be great! You can go camping and enjoy a picnic or two! Who doesn’t love that? But when your blood is sweet to mosquitos, going outside doesn’t seem as lovable. When a mosquito bites you, they inject an anticoagulant to prevent blood clotting as they feed on your blood. Sounds gross, right? What your left with is a red bump that itches or sometimes hurts. I hate getting bitten by mosquitos, which is why I want to share my top home remedies to help cure and relieve mosquito bites. Read on to learn more.
Rubbing Alcohol- JR hates it when I use rubbing alcohol to relieve mosquito bites because he says I smell like a doctor’s office. Do you think I care? I’ll use whatever helps with that intolerable itch, and rubbing alcohol is my top remedy. It helps reduce the pain and itchy feeling I get from mosquito bites, so I scratch them less and they go away faster. Rubbing alcohol works so well due to its antiseptic properties. I apply some to a cotton ball and dab it onto my bite. Works every time!
Draw an X- This sounds odd, but one way to relieve itch, it to draw an x over your bite with your finger nails. My mom used to use this trick when I was a kid and it may sound like nonsense, but it actually works—well, kind of. See, when you draw an x over a mosquito bite with your finger nail, you’re causing pain that distracts you from the itch and pain of the bite itself. In a way, you tick your brain to forget about the pain. X marks the spot in this case!
Some Honey- My mother also liked to dab honey onto our mosquito bites. Honey, like alcohol, has some antiseptic properties, which is why it works so well to help reduce itch and cure mosquito bites! A little bit of sweetness can go a long way when it comes to mosquito bites!
