4 Google Reader Alternatives

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I recently read that Google would be closing down a few features including my favorite – Google Reader. Apparently Google is working toward narrowing their service selection due to declining use of some offerings. Many folks have asked if that means the end of an era for RSS (Really Simple Syndication).

Google Reader has been an excellent solution over the years for streamlining blogs and news through an RSS feed – in other words, it’s a great way to get all your faves in one place. Believe it or not, there are some other options and as Google Reader closes its doors… more will open!

4 Google Reader Alternatives

  • Pulse – This RSS solution displays content in a tile design and also incorporates sharing buttons.
  • Twitter – I know this one isn’t your typical RSS reader, but it is a great option for creating lists to get all your news (and sort it by topic).
  • Flipboard – Much like a beautiful digital magazine, Flipboard navigation is done through a swipe (like you’re turning the pages of a magazine). Operates on mobile only.
  • Feedly – This RSS reader has some great organizational capabilities, but has a stylin’ magazine-like design. Feedly works with Safari, Firefox and Chrome and also offers mobile apps.

I will miss Google Reader so much! Have you tried any of these Google Reader alternatives? If you have any others, leave them in the comments.
