Life is full of big changes. I’ve had toxic friendships in my life and letting them go was no easy task. When you’re left alone and without friends because of a new work situation, or because you’ve had to cut some people out of your life, it’s easy to feel vulnerable and lonely. No one wants to feel that way. You want to find people whom you can look up to. You want to find friends whom you can fit in with. It can feel scary to make friends as an adult, but it’s possible. Join an Activity- Take a class you’ve been dying to try but never had the guts to do. Maybe it’s a fitness class or a painting class. Join a club. I’ve found some pretty amazing people by joining a book club. If you’re a movie buff, find a movie-watching society in your area. It’s all about finding friends with similar interests, while also keeping yourself busy.
Find Mutual Friends- If you’ve recently moved to a new city, this is a sure fire way to make a new friend. Find out if anyone you know has friends in your new town, and ask to be introduced. You’d be surprised by how easily you’ll hit it off.
Connect or Reconnect- Who have you lost contact with? It could be a childhood friend. Send them a Facebook Message and find out when their free. If you have coworkers you’d like to get to know better, ask them for a drink. Everyone is looking to connect with someone so don’t be afraid to get out there and ask around. Let go of that self doubt and open up to finding new friends.
