5 Ways to Disconnect & Recharge This Summer

When it comes to summer, one of the first things I think of is simply relaxing, disconnecting and having a chance to recharge. From long sunset walks with the family to simply lounging around on a Sunday morning, summer is for enjoying yourself and having a chance to truly reset. JR and I have been doing that much more often with our new home in Greenwich having so much to enjoy outdoors – and it’s been a total game-changer. I highly recommend it. Not sure how to make that happen? Here are just a few ideas on how to disconnect and recharge this summer.

5 Ways to Disconnect & Recharge this Summer

With the sun shining and the days long and glow-y, it’s tough to feel stressed – but sometimes you still have to make a point to let the little things roll off your back and enjoy the sweetness of the season while it’s here. If you’re anything like me, taking those first steps to relax are the most challenging, but once you settle in to life away from email, phone and social media – you love every minute of the peace and tranquility. Here’s what we’ve been doing to recharge.

#1. Take a trip somewhere remote. It doesn’t have to be super far away or expensive – in the summer season it’s easy to find a quaint little cottage by the beach, a cabin in the woods or even pack up your tent and head out for a couple of nights of camping. You won’t even have to struggle with whether or not you should check your email when you’re out of the cell zone and you get to simply hang and chill out with your friends, loved ones or even all by yourself.

#2. Make it a point to take a long walk every day. There’s nothing as wonderful as the long days of summer and that means there’s always time for a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood – even if you can’t squeeze it in until 7 or 8 o’clock in the evening. Just make it happen. Turn off the T.V., put away your phone and take 30 minutes a day to simply walk. You’ll feel rejuvenated, rested and relaxed – trust me!

#3. Treat yourself to cocktails or dinner al fresco at least once a week. Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean that work will slow down, but you can make sure you make it a point to enjoy the gorgeous weather – even during the week! One of the best parts of the season? Dining outdoors of course! Set aside the time for a weekly date night and make sure you choose a restaurant with outdoor seating or have a weekly girls happy hour – but meet outdoors! That little dose of sun will keep you feeling zen and happy all summer long.

#4. Pack a picnic and take the whole family to the park for dinner or lunch once a week. Turns out, it’s not only adults who love to spend time eating outdoors – make it a family affair. Try having sandwich night just once a week and pack it all up in your favorite basket, throw in some watermelon, sparkling water and cookies and you’ve got one fun evening on your hands. Have a family game of Frisbee to give it an extra dose of relaxation – the whole fam will be feeling the summer love.

#5. Make early mornings your new thing. Some quiet time alone each day is especially enjoyable in the summer months when you can make it part of your daily routine. Start setting the alarm a half hour earlier each morning and make it a point to take your coffee, tea and a good book outside each morning before the rest of your household rises. You’ll have that peaceful time alone, focused – yet disconnected, and you’ll start your day feeling absolutely amazing.

What do you think? Will any of these ideas work for your family when it comes to relaxing and recharging this summer?
