Independence. We all seek it. As women, it’s especially important that we take our time to assert our independence as individuals in this male-dominated society. There are ways to assert your independence and make yourself a strong and powerful individual. It’s all about being open and trying new things. Sound scary? You’re supposed to be a little afraid. Now, get out there and get it done, ladies. You’ll be feelings strong in no time.
Make Your Own Decisions- How many times in your life have you turned to someone else and questioned whether you should do something? How many times have you asked for the input of others in your decision-making. Sure, sometimes we need some advice, but not all the time, Take a stand. Start telling yourself that you make the right decisions and make them. Find the confidence to make those decisions for yourself.
Practice Being Assertive- Start small. When you order at a restaurant, instead of saying “Can I have,” tell the waiter what you want. If you don’t want to do something, like go to the club with your friends, say so and say it early on. Use your power of veto. Say yes to things that you want to do and make them happen. Show people how you want to be treated when you don’t feeling like your being treated properly.
Be Scared and Uncomfortable- Growth comes from getting out of your comfort zone, so it’s time to do things that scare you and make you uncomfortable. Tell yourself you have the guts to do those things you never had a chance to do. Again, it’s good to start small and take baby steps. Maybe try talking to a stranger in a café or taking a solo weekend trip before planning the big European vacation.
You Don’t Need To Explain Yourself- Be a weirdo and accept all those things you did in the past for what they are. Maybe you were scared or worried. There’s no need to explain for your past or present actions. You are who you are and that’s all anyone needs to know.
