My heart just breaks every time we hear about a natural disaster, whether it’s on US soil or halfway around the world. Typhoon Haiyan – what is being reported as one of the biggest storms ever on record – ripped through the Philippines over the weekend, causing at least 10,000 deaths in Tacloban alone. The typhoon (locally known as Yolanda) is now heading for Vietnam and Southern China. It’s time for us to come together and help the survivors affected by this catastrophic tragedy any we can. Here are five ways to reach out and contribute to rebuilding the hearts and homes of the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.
5 Ways to Help the Philippines After Typhoon Haiyan
- Habitat for Humanity is taking donations that will help create shelter-repair kits for families rebuilding homes.
- World Vision is providing food and water in evacuation shelters.
- The United Nations World Food Programme has set up an online donation page to send food and other resources.
- The American Red Cross is providing a family tracing service (with other aid). Contact your local chapter if you cannot locate your loved ones.
- CARE is partnering with local contacts in the Philippines to provide food, water, shelter and health care.
