Today is Pay It Forward Day! I feel so grateful to live in a world where we have a day to celebrate the good. It’s so often that we hear bad news. Watching news programs almost feels like the world is coming to an end with all the terrible things that go on, but the good news is that the world is capable of change for the better. Today is a day that celebrates that change. That’s why I wanted to share with you some ways that you can help pay it forward.
Volunteer- I know it seems obvious, but volunteering your time is a great way to help pay it forward. Look online and try to help your community. I believe it was Mahatma Ghandi who said “you must be the change you wish to see in the world,” so why not try changing the world through volunteer work.
Do Little Things- If you work long hours and feel like you can’t get much done outside of work or home, then just work on doing little things. A smile to a stranger could be enough to change that stranger’s day, so try it! Doing little things to help other people can have a big impact on you and those around you.
Say Something Kind- You could try writing a nice Yelp! review for a local business you love. Introduce yourself to someone, and compliment them on their earrings. Call up your favorite girlfriend to tell her why you love her. Any word of kindness counts.
Be Polite- Be a polite driver, and let someone get in front of you. Hold the door open for a stranger, and say thank you to your server. When someone tells you they owe you something ask them to pay it forward themselves.
Do Good Deeds- If you hear a friend is sick, buy them some soup. Give away some of your favorite books to friends or just help them out when they feel stressed. A listening, nonjudgmental ear is sometimes all someone needs to get by.
