I think it’s pretty common to find yourself wishing for more time in the day – it’s definitely a staple on my own wish list! Since we know the amount of time in a day is out of our hands, figuring out how to block off time for yourself is pretty high priority. With everything that has to get done for everyone else (like dogs, cats, kiddos, husbands, wives, partners and family – just to name a few!), finding moments to yourself can feel like hidden treasure. Check out these tips for how to block off time for yourself on the daily.
6 Ways to Make More Time for Yourself
- Skip the procrastination and take care of things right away. Emails, returning phone calls – administrative tasks – just get ‘em done.
- Make time for yourself in unlikely places. Have a Doctor or Dentist appointment? Throw some of your favorite catalogs or a book in your bag. Zone out while you wait.
- Make a list! Between work and personal life, there’s a lot to get done. Jot it down and check things off as you finish. Reward yourself with a few minutes of down time when the list is complete.
- Turn off the a.m. TV. Focus on the task at hand – preparing for the day and getting everyone out the door. This will help you steal a few minutes later.
- Block time on your work calendar. Just do it. If all you do is shut your office door and take a few minutes to breathe or go for a walk, that time alone is precious during a busy day.
- Take a time-out from tech. Before you go to bed spend 20 minutes reading a book or even just reflecting on the day, but put down your phone, iPad – anything tech-y – and just enjoy the quiet.
