We’re all guilty of taking things a little too personally from time to time. It happens. But when it starts to overwhelm you and the actions of others feel like they’re aimed at you, it’s time to stop taking things personal. From thinking about the big picture to redirecting your attention, here’s a look at how to stop taking things personally and get focused on you.

How to Stop Taking Things Personally

  1. Give yourself a confidence boost. You represent you – remember that. Simply focus on being your best.
  2. Try giving that other person the benefit of the doubt. Rather than jumping to conclusions, think big picture and what that action might really be about. (most likely, it has nothing to do with you)
  3. Have a voice. If someone’s words or actions are affecting you in a negative way, speak up!
  4. Refocus your attention off of your own feelings and back to what that other person said or did. Their words or actions probably have nothing to do with you, but rather their own shortcomings or insecurities.

Has anyone like your boss or a friend ever told you to stop taking things personal? How did you react? Did you change your mindset?
