So you’re going on vacation, but you don’t want to check a bag at the airport. Not only would you be you overpaying, but there’s also a chance the airport might loose your luggage (happened to me! Three days without my stuff. The horror!). Besides, do you really want to be lugging around a giant suitcase as you travel about? The next best option is a carry-on suitcase. It’s easy to take with you, you don’t have to pay extra for it and you have control over where it goes. The only problem is picking out what to pack. Since carry-ons are smaller, you’ve got to pack as though you’re solving a jigsaw puzzle. Sounds complicated? Well, it doesn’t have to be! I’ve got some solutions and tips for packing your carry-on! Check them out below.
Get Organized- First things first, figure out what you want to take. Don’t just throw any old outfit into your suitcase. You’ve got to plan ahead. Think about separates that match with more than one outfit, a maxi dress you can wear three different ways, and shoes that match with everything. Lay out everything you want to pack on your bed, and go from there.
Pack Your Heaviest Items First- When I first starting packing my carry-on luggage, I used to pack my shoes first. Makes sense, right? Actually the best thing that you can do is pack your heaviest items first. Got a pair of jeans, or a maxi dress that has some extra flowy fabric? Make sure you roll these items up so they fit in-between those bars at the bottom of your suitcase.
Add Your Lighter Stuff- Add lighter items next by rolling them instead of folding them, as well. Create layers in your suitcase and try to fit smaller items into the sides. Use up as much space as possible so you can fit as much as you want.
Invest In A Shoe Bag- Shoe bags are so helpful for packing. Instead of having your shoes take up space at the bottom of your suitcase, invest in some shoe bags. They help your shoes fit anywhere. I usually place my shoe bags at the top of my luggage with my makeup bag and toiletries.
Check Out How Much Space Is Left- Close your luggage and see if you have any extra space. Any accessories you wanted to take can now be added and you’re ready to jet set. Safe travels!
