We’ve all heard the phrase, “old habits die hard.” And there’s a reason why that expression is so common – it’s the truth! Removing old habits from your routine can be super tough – that’s why they’re called habits – something you do automatically, without even thinking about it. Since breaking old habits can be such a challenge, perhaps adding in new, healthy habits would help. Making life changes don’t happen on their own, so check out these tips for how to release old habits and get to it!

Break Those Bad Habits for Good: 4 Strategies

  1. Think baby steps. Some old habits are pretty intense – like smoking or eating an unhealthy diet. S, rather than quitting cold turkey, try adding in something healthy. Like a daily 15 minute power walk or a cup of leafy greens with dinner.
  2. Write down a list of new, healthy habits that can replace the old habits you’re trying to break.
  3. Make the new habits lots of fun. Let’s say you’re trying to change your eating habits – try a healthy cooking class with friends or hit up the farmers market to prepare a healthy dinner party.
  4. Just do it. No one can make this change but you.
