Celebrate Veterans Day by Honoring Those Who Served

Veterans Day

Do you have a loved one or family member that has served in the military? Spend Veterans Day with them tomorrow celebrating them and their selfless act of bravery. Even if you don’t have any ties to the military, you can still take time to give back to those who served and made sure we are free today. Read on for a few ideas to get you started.

Celebrate Veterans Day by Honoring Those Who Served

Veterans Day

1. Visit a Veterans Hospital.

Bring flowers, small gifts like blankets, or care packages and spend time with veterans who may not get to see their families very often. Thank them for their service and listen to their stories.

2. Volunteer with the USO.

There are volunteer centers all over the US, and they are always looking for people to help out.

3. Put Together Care Packages for Soldiers Overseas.

The U.S. Department of Defense has compiled a list of resources (although they are not endorsed) for sending overseas care packages to soldiers currently deployed on missions.

4. Pay for a Military Member’s Meal.

Are you out for dinner and spot a member of the military? Pick up their check or have the staff send over dessert on your dime. It’s a nice way to say thank you. If you’re celebrating a loved one who served, make dinner a big celebration.

5. Call Your Loved Ones.

If your family member or loved one who served doesn’t live close by, give them a call and ask them how they’re doing. Let them know you’re thinking about them on Veterans Day, and always, and remind them that you’re so thankful for their service.

6. Attend a Local Parade.

Many towns have parades or ceremonies commemorating local heroes on Veterans Day. Be sure to attend and celebrate your fellow neighbors.

7. Donate Your Airline Miles.

You can donate airline miles to the Hero Miles program to help wounded and sick soldiers and families be together while soldiers are undergoing treatment.
