Stories like these warm my heart. Upworthy recently reported on best friends Casey Pearlman and Yasmin Idris. According to the article, the two young friends were in a car last year discussing what their religions have in common. Casey is Jewish, while Yasmin is Muslim.
Casey’s dad Jeff coined a new term that day, “Juslim.” Fast forward to Halloween, and the girls decided to make it the term their super power— and their Halloween costumes. Check out the best buds last Halloween in their “Juslim” costume.

Jeff, a successful author with 50,000 followers watched as the tweet went viral. He told BuzzFeed, “There’s just so much hostility in the air and in this election season. This was just a refreshing, innocent reminder that we don’t have to be this way. We do not have to let divisiveness take over right now.”
Even JK Rowling chimed in on the costume saying:”If you’re a kid and you make a fun costume with your friend, and you don’t think anything of it,” she said. “And then there’s people all over the world who are responding to your homemade superhero costume, it’s pretty special.”
There’s a reason stories like these speak to so many of us. Casey and Yasmin are just two best friends who wanted to dress up together. They created a costume so they could have fun, while also showing the world that kids have a lot to teach us.
As we start to think up costumes for this Halloween, throw intolerance aside and learn from these girls. Yasmin and Casey, you’re my heroes.
