Documentaries are meant to teach. I love a good documentary. When I finish a documentary, I always feel like I’ve completed a book or learned a tale. They take me to another world and educate me. Right now, true crime dramas are really catching the world’s attention with docu-series’ like Serial and The Jinx becoming popular. I personally love cultural documentaries that tell me something about people and lives I’ve never known before. There are plenty of documentaries that you can stream on Netflix right now! Check out some of the documentaries I love online now.
The Act Of Killing- This chilling documentary takes a look at a series of killings in Indonesia through the 60s. It truly puts the extent of human violence into question.
Virunga- This is a British documentary that tells the story of four different people in their attempt to protect Virunga National Park in the Congo, which houses the world’s last mountain gorilla. It’s received lots of acclaim and seems to be a must see, so go and see!
Exit Through Gift Shop- This documentary is narrated by Banksy and is about the rise of fellow street artist, Mr. Brainwash. It explores the idea of artistic value and questions what’s real and what’s not within the art world.
Advanced Style- Ari Seth Cohen brought the world Advanced Style with his blog, book and documentary. This film takes a peek into the lives of these women whom Ari often photographs. It’s a charming look into the world of advanced fashion.
Stories We Tell- There’s a running joke within Sarah Polly’s family. Things come to a head when that joke ends up becoming a truth. Stories We Tell is an interesting look into the lives that we lead and how that affects the people that surround us.
