So, you’ve finally found yourself in the role of Maid of Honor – how exciting and what an honor, truly! Getting the chance to act our this role for a friend or loved one is such a trusted and special thing. Part a listening ear throughout the wedding planning process and part bachelorette host; the Maid of Honor is there to make the bride laugh and keep her smiling throughout the months leading up to the wedding. If you’re nervous about keeping track of all your MOH. duties, take a look at the list below – it’ll keep you on your toes and you won’t miss a beat!
- Direct all the bridesmaids in their duties – bachelorette parties, ceremony duties, dress purchases etc. In a nutshell, you keep everyone on track.
- Volunteer to help the bride with wedding tasks like addressing invites and keeping track of gifts.
- Attend dress fittings and accessory shopping trips with the bride.
- Offer a listening ear. Sometimes wedding planning can get a little tense between family members and the bride and groom. Offer advice or just listen (and give lots of hugs) when she needs you.
- Answer questions about registry information and ceremony details for family, friends and guests.
- Keep the wedding dress safe and stored after the bride changes and departs for the honeymoon.
- Host a bridal shower and bachelorette party.
- Keep track of gifts at all the pre-wedding parties and events.
- Help plan and coordinate travel and lodging plans for all the bridesmaids.
- Hold the groom’s wedding band.
- Make sure all the bridesmaids have everything they need – dresses, shoes, accessories and help keep track of hair and makeup.
- Once the ceremony has begun, fix the bride’s wedding train and hold her bouquet.
- You and the best man will sign the marriage license as witnesses.
- Stand in the receiving line to greet and thank guests.
- Help guests find their seats and answer any questions they may have.
- Keep gifts and envelopes safe.
- Remind the bride to relax, eat and have a drink!
- Toast the couple (after the best man, of course!).

- Simply be a best friend.
