Self-doubt is one of those things we all deal with from time to time. Self-doubt is a natural reaction to getting out there, putting yourself out there and trying something new. How do you know it will work? How do you know people will listen to you? Or like you? It’s a big world, and when we venture out there with an idea (no matter how great it is), it’s entirely normal to have a little bit of self-doubt. It’s when the unsure feelings start to take over, become debilitating or so overpowering that you are afraid to follow your dreams.

Face the fears, head on. Fear is undoubtedly the number one thing causing self-doubt. Whether it’s fear of the unknown or fear of what everyone will think, it creeps in there and starts to take over. Sit down and have a reasonable conversation with yourself. What are you afraid of and why? How can you help yourself bring it all into perspective and overcome those fears? Honesty is the best policy, even if it’s with yourself.
Stop worrying about what everyone else is doing and focus on yourself. What makes you a total GirlBoss? It’s your unique ability to do what you do best, and that means forgetting all the noise out there. Have the self-confidence to go out there into the world with your ideas, your way of doing things and your process. Who cares what everyone else is doing? They’re not you. They don’t bring to the table the same skills, passion, ideas and drive – you do.
Stick to your values. There are going to be lots of people you’ll meet in life and in business who want you to do things their way or believe it’s their way or the highway. But you get to be you in a sea of people who don’t know what direction to go…you know. You know what you stand for. You know what matters to you. And, you know how to follow your value system.
Follow your instinct. This is a big one as many of us know precisely which path to take, but then we get scared. Your instincts are yours and yours alone – and should be trusted no matter what. It’s OK if you make a decision based on instinct – sometimes there’s no denying it or explaining it – you just know. And, that my friends, is huge. At the end of the day, following your heart is where it’s at, and you owe no one an explanation.
