Marie Kondo has turned organizing your space into a spiritual experience. Gone are the days of rolling your eyes every time your laundry stacks up. With her best-selling book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, and now her Netflix series Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, it seems like everyone is catching the KonMari method craze. So, what’s it all about? I’m about to spill all of Kondo’s life-changing, tidying secrets. Read on for more!
There are six basic rules to the KonMari Method and they are as follows:
1. Commit yourself to tidying up. Imagine your ideal lifestyle.
2. Finish discarding first.
3. Before getting rid of items, sincerely thank each item for serving its purpose.
4. Tidy by category, not location.
5. Follow the right order.
6. Ask yourself it it sparks joy.
Once you have those in check, you need to move on to your categories.
- Clothes
- Books
- Papers
- Miscellaneous items
- Sentimental Items
While some may think it’s all about tidying, it’s really about being mindful and letting go of things that lack value in your life. Start by going drawer by drawer, item by item. Ask yourself, “does this spark joy in my life?” If it doesn’t, thank it for its service in your life and move along. The goal for the KonMari method is to have a clutter-free home that brings you joy! Live your life with less stress and try it out.
