In need of some new material to read this summer? No worries! There are plenty of amazing female writers out there with great books to fill up your free time. I love a good book, especially one with great plot and realistic characters I can relate to, which is why I wanted to write this post. Below are some of my favorite female writers. Let me know if you’ve read any of them before in the comments section. If you have any suggestions, let me know as well.
Gillian Flynn- Gone Girl was a great literary and film success. Her other novels are also noteworthy. She generally writes mysteries about women in intense situations. Check her out sometime!
Donna Tart- Donna Tart usually takes about ten years to write a novel, which is probably why they’re always so great. Not only was The Goldfinch a bestseller, but it also won a Pulitzer. Incredible!
Zadie Smith- She came out with her first novel, White Teeth, at 22 and it earned her a lot of attention. She’s a brilliant writer who isn’t afraid to say what’s on the minds of everyone. She’s published three more novels, which have been praised time and time over.
Harper Lee- Go Set A Watchmen isn’t exactly what readers were expecting from the woman who created (and destroyed) a hero that was a major part of America’s culture. She’s still a great writer nonetheless and To Kill A Mockingbird is still a huge part of American literary history.
Chimamanda Adichie- Beyonce is a fan, and she hasn’t disappointed us yet so I guess the rest of us should check her out as well. Chimamanda Adichie paved the way for a new generation of African authors with her novel Half Of A Yellow Sun. Read her 2013 release Americanah to find out more about this brilliant author.
