Just say no. The end. Just kidding. It truly is a blessed position to be in when everyone around you comes to you for advice. It means people trust your opinion and experience enough to respect and seek your guidance, whether that be in their business endeavors or conquering life’s obstacles. The problem, of course, is we only have twenty-four hours in each day. When you’re already a full-time workaholic, time becomes scarce. No emergency in life is more important than you. Sometimes you have to put yourself and your prior commitments first, and just say no!
Friday Feels: How to Say No
The more you say no, the easier it becomes. Here are a few pointers on how to say no to anyone.
Say it Quickly
Don’t leave people hanging – let them know you won’t be able to help out this time around and briefly explain why. No one needs an essay here.
Be Brief
By the time you’ve written a long story describing all of the reasons why you can’t help them, you could have helped them – and you sound like you’re giving excuses. Briefly explain that you have a packed diary this week so unfortunately, you are not able to help them this time.
Offer Support
If you are highly knowledgeable in the area they’re asking for help with, send them a blog link or information you know will help them. Helpful resources are an excellent starting block for your friend without requiring you to sacrifice hours of your time that you just don’t have.
