During MAWC 2017, I gave my Out of Bounds speech. It was all about getting out of your comfort zone and going for your goals. One of the point that I made during my speech had to do with dreaming. Remember dreams? When we were children, we spent all day dreaming, creating, and playing. We had fun. Then what happened? We grew up and assumed the roles we thought were prescribed for us. We stopped dreaming—we stopped having fun, and essentially sacrificed our happiness. If you forgot how to dream like you did when you were a kid, that’s okay! Don’t be too hard on yourself. Instead, read this post to help remind you how to go back to dreaming like a kid again
How to Get Back to Dreaming Like A Kid Again
Escape Reality- We all have daydreams. We all have moments where our minds wander. What we’re doing is escaping reality. Do you find yourself doing this for small moments throughout your day? If you do, then you’re essentially dreaming. The key is to question these moments. Where do you go? Is it a tropical destination? Or maybe you’re driving that car you’ve always wanted! Capture that, and you’re dreaming like a kid again.
Open Your Mind- Right now your aspirations and desires aren’t guiding your actions, and that might be because you have no idea what those aspirations or desires are. Here’s what you can do: open your mind. I suggest doing this by using a relaxation technique like meditation. Doing this may help you be more present to those goals and dreams. Try it for yourself!
Get Creative- Kids play and have fun! I know sometimes this thought feels ludicrous, but there was a time when you played and had fun. Crazy, huh? It’s time to get back to that stage of life. What did you like to do as a child? If you liked to paint or play dress up, then bust out that sketch book or sign up for an acting class. It might open you up to what you really want!
I hope you can dream again like you once did! Be sure to let me know in the comments section if this post was helpful!
