Do you find yourself drooling over DIY home improvement shows and building endless Pinterest boards or your dream house? While for many creating a home that has a sense of style is the ultimate goal, it’s tough to achieve with home makeovers being so costly. Here’s the thing, with a little elbow grease and some creative solutions, a makeover on a budget is totally doable. If you’re ready to roll your sleeves up and get your DIY on, these ideas may just be the thing that gets you the facelift your home needs.
- Dining Room Upadate – Take your drab and shabby dining room from dark and dingy to bright and beachy with a coat of white paint and some bright fabrics. Paint dark woods (like paneled walls and old dining chairs) white and change out old fabric seats and curtains with inexpensive fabric. You’d be surprised about what a little paint can do.
- Bedroom – Dying for that glamorous bed of your dreams, but just can’t afford it? No worries! Craft a headboard from a cool piece of fabric, an old door painted and turned on its side or even paint a rectangular headboard right on the wall. This simple change will be the inspiration for the rest of the room.
- Entryway needs a lift? This is one of those quickly forgotten rooms, but typically so easy to change. Start with paint (of course!) and go bold – this will help define the space. Add a gallery of art on one wall – try framing old family photos, pieces of wall paper and cool pics from magazines to keep it on the cheap. Add an inexpensive runner and you’ll have a whole new space.
- Kitchen – The kitchen is usually a tough one with expensive appliances and other high ticket items that often need updates, but there are definitely a few small changes you can make to give yourself a whole new room. Paint is definitely your friend (do you sense a theme here?) – painting walls, cabinets and even an old wood floor can breathe new life into a kitchen that was once dark and grimy. Add new, fun hardware to an old sink or cupboards to dress them up and think about pulling the doors off some cabinets to create the illusion of open shelving.
Taking on a home makeover on a budget is definitely an approachable task, but getting creative and a little dirty are total musts for getting the job done. Have you recently made over a room in your home? I’d love to hear about it!
